Tier 1: tile and metal
Tile (clay/concrete): the TX classic for a reason — shrugs off UV, ventilates naturally via the air gap under tiles, 50+ year lifespans. Heavy and expensive, but unmatched in sustained heat.
Metal (standing seam): excellent heat reflectivity with cool coatings, 140+ mph wind ratings, 40–70 year life. Lighter than tile, faster to install, and the energy story is genuinely good — not just marketing.
Tier 2: quality architectural shingles
Modern architectural shingles with reflective granules perform respectably in Huntsville heat — 22–28 realistic years with proper ventilation. The value proposition is strong: a fraction of tile/metal cost for solid performance.
